In 1424 the king died and two of his sons killed each other in the fight to succeed him. A third son became the new king and built this temple where his father and brothers were cremated. In the 1950s it was discovered that the main prang included a three-story crypt with more than 100,000 votive tablets and more than 100 kilograms of gold jewelry. Many of these can now be seen in Bangkok's National Museum. The standing Buddha in this photo is part of the ongoing restoration. |
